Had to share this, Blair Burdett wrote this on his page. Blair has always been a supporter of our facility from the time he has grown up here and still a great supporter even though he has moved away. The project would never have happened without the determination of the committees and the unwavering support of the community. A few words about the new arena: Our little town has lost many families over the years, including mine, for many different reasons, I guess this is the reality of a small town. This is not unique to just Lundar, unfortunately its happening all over these days. We have seen the results of this downfall firsthand losing Hydro, CIBC, Emergency services in our local hospital, and even many farms within the area over the years , the list goes on and on. There is a positive side to this story though, I see a town fighting back, not willing to lay down and give in. I see a town that has pulled together and are willing to fight for a future for themselves and their children. One of the groups within this Community fighting back is GRETTIR. This organization is basically the Community; made up of townsfolk who are willing to work endlessly for a vision that some think was not possible. The organization is and has been very aggressive in fund raising, getting grants, putting together a very good plan and having the courage to execute it. It does not end there, the effort needed is immense, the volunteered hours and dedication spent on this project alone are incredible. WE have seen the finances; The D.S Allen letter dated January 10, 2017 was the budget presented for phase 1 estimate that was presented at the open house in April 2017 The Arena project progress letter dated October 1, 2018 outlines projected costs to finish phase1 & 2. Funding for the project from grants show that there is not more costs incurring or driving the budget higher for the RM’s 2.5 million contribution. Costs are presently tracking $500,000 less on the RM contribution. This list does not show the money that has been saved by having constant expertise project management that have been involved in day-to-day decisions that have save the project cost and delay. We must recognize the dedicated volunteer workers, volunteered equipment, and not to mention the coordinated effort and help from the RM of Coldwell, without their input this project would have not been a success. A Building like this is more than just an arena; it is a gym, a running track, a banquet hall, a banking facility, office area, a lounge, and more, this is a facility that will be available to anyone who wishes to enjoy it for years to come. Hold your head high Lundar because this is something we should all be very proud of.
